JULIE WROTE: The other day my three-year-old son asked, “Mommy, are you young?” I thought for a moment and it hit me, “No, I’m not.” He asked, “Are you old?” I quickly replied, “NO.” Then he looked confused and after some time asked “What are you?” It was the first time I said it and felt it, “Well, Lukey I am middle aged.” YIKES! I am middle aged! When did that happen? I thought my parents were middle aged, but now that I think about it I have replaced them. They are old and I am middle aged and 42 yrs old. No way around that fact.
I am not sure what this means or when this happened but I don’t like it. I recently joined Facebook and I saw old pictures of me in high school where I was young and beautiful, but I had no idea. I thought I was ugly and disfigured and had no clue that I was young. Youth is definitely wasted on the young.
It is relative however. My 87 yr old mother in law reminds me that compared to her I am young and beautiful so “shut up and enjoy it!!!”
